"No man is an island, entire of itself
Every man is a piece of the continent, a part of the main"
Working as a software engineer for over five years, you get to know many colleagues and friends, each with their own distinct personalities, programming styles, and approaches to work.
Some work harder than others. Some constantly try to improve their God-given talents, while others may be gifted but not as diligent. There are those who stay humble, not seeking appreciation yet still recognized by others. There are also those who choose to step into the spotlight from time to time.
Some people push beyond their comfort zones. Others prefer to remain where they feel secure and comfortable, sometimes even building their own space of comfort by any means necessary.
Again as John Donne puts it in his poem that "No man is an island" where no one is entirely of him or herself, those who are working in a company are part of a company that are working together to help, struggle, and bring up each other not just as an individual but also as a whole.
I have worked with people who are easy to collaborate with, and others who are more difficult or firm in their own ways. Disagreements and friction happen when people work closely together, and not everyone will agree with what you propose, I bet you might not agree with them either sometimes. In times like these, setting aside your ego matters a lot if you want to understand different perspectives and grow.
You can support those who need help, and you can also deal with people who challenge you, while still staying respectful and professional. These are not easy things to have, but they're important to learn and practice as you work with others and become part of a team.
The world is filled with many kinds of people with different ideas, knowledge, and ways of work, but working alone or working for your own gain will not bring you any further than where you are. Only by working together you may go together and go far. (yes this is GoTo tagline haha but it's a good one though)
"As iron sharpens iron, So one person sharpens another."
